This poster is also being displayed by an organization called YGOD. The text is very direct. It consists of a question and an answer. The question is, “Are you thirsty?” The answer, given by Jesus Himself, says that Jesus can satisfy our thirst totally.
"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.” John chapter 7 verse 37 (ANIV). The verse is interesting because we are told that Jesus didn’t whisper it, write it or even just say it – HE SHOUTED IT! At the top of His voice. Why on earth did Jesus do that? A bit rude surely? The ravings of a mad man perhaps?
The clue to this eccentric behaviour is found in the words On the last and greatest
day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, (John 7:37 (ANIV). What
feast? And why leave it until the last moment? The feast was the Jewish Feast of
Tabernacles or Booths or Tents. Every year the Jews wanted to remember how kind
God had been to them in the desert on their journey from Egypt to Palestine (the
area not the modern State) when they escaped from the power of Pharaoh in the time
of Moses. Think about Cecil B Demille’s film The 10 Commandments or Spielberg’s
Animated Feature The Prince of Egypt to get the picture. The Jewish people (the
Israelites) lived in the desert or wilderness for forty years. During this time
God looked after them miraculously in ways we won’t go into. So to remember this,
the Jews of the time of Jesus lived in tents for a week. Easton's Illustrated Dictionary
states -
So Jesus waited until it was the day to pour out the water and shouted out about Himself If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
